Referring to your letter of the 21st December I am

directed to state that His Excellency the Governor is not pre- pared to hold over the question of your suspension.

2.

You are, however, at liberty to offer yourself to the

local litary Authorities as a candidate for active service;

but you must clearly understand that, if your services are

accepted, the question of your receiving any pay from this

Government after the period of your suspension will depend upon

the decision of the Secretary of State for the Colonies in the

cage.

3. Any memorial that you may wish to address to the

Secretary of State should reach me by noon on Wednesday next,

in triplicate.
